Curiosity and a Love of Mathematics
| News Veranstaltung Info
Mathematics is far more than numbers and formulas – it thrives on curiosity, creativity, and the courage to embrace new challenges. This is exactly what 28 students from the International Bilingual School Munich (IBSM) demonstrated quite impressively when they took part in the international Kangaroo Mathematics Competition teilgenommen haben.
At the IBSM, we are particularly proud not only of the high number of participants, but above all of the courage and enthusiasm shown by our youngest mathematicians. One Grade 1 student and two Grade 2 students voluntarily tackled the tasks set for Grade 3 – a wonderful example of a love of learning, self-confidence, and the desire to go beyond one’s limits.
A particularly joyful moment was the achievement of one of our students who received a special award, ranking her among the top 5% of her year group across Germany. This outstanding accomplishment fills us with great appreciation and highlights what is possible when talent, motivation, and encouragement come together.
The Kangaroo Maths Competition is a globally recognized multiple-choice competition for maths students in Grades 3 to 13, held annually in March. It aims to kindle enthusiasm for mathematical thinking and to encourage children and young people to engage with mathematical challenges independently and with curiosity and enjoyment. Currently, around 6 million students in over 100 countries take part – in Germany alone there were more than 880,000 participants in 2025.
We are incredibly proud of all IBSM students who took part in the Kangaroo Maths Competition. Their commitment, focus, and enthusiasm for mathematics reflect exactly what we stand for as a school: learning with joy, courage, and an international mindset.
